Who we are

My name is Cassidy Lavin, I’m the founder of The Oakland Hockey Project.

I’ve been playing hockey in the Berkeley–Oakland community since I was two years old (yes, that’s me in the photo). The rinks here have shaped who I am — as a player, a teammate, and a believer in what hockey can mean to a community.

The Oakland Hockey Project was born in a parking lot. It’s an idea that stems from a belief: that Oakland deserves a team of its own — one that reflects the grit, creativity, and heart of The Town. We are inspired by the community driven teams that came before us — the Ballers and the Roots.

We’re building toward bringing semi-professional hockey to Oakland in 2027, rooted in community, culture, and the next generation of players.

This project isn’t just about the game — it’s about building something lasting for Oakland.

Follow along as we make it happen.
